Modeling a BLU Display with Polarization Recycling Using ASAP (Demo Movie)
The effect of polarization recycling in a section of a backlight unit is examined. A hybrid polarizer allows one polarization component to exit, reducing losses if coupled to a typical liquid crystal display system. The complementary polarization is recycled back into the backlight through a uni-directional depolarizer, with the diffuse processes in the backlight ignoring polarization effects. This simulates mixing effects which ultimately allow some of the recycled light to exit on subsequent passes. The output irradiance, extinction profile, and quality of output polarization, via a polarization analyzer, are examined. (Subtitle Languages: English, Japanese, Traditional Chinese, Korean)
